Legal Policy & Terms of Use

Last updated: June 4, 2026

1. Acceptance of terms

By accessing the Gulf Coast Surveyors website or using the public draft-survey calculator and shipment coverage lookup (the “Services”), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.

2. Nature of the Services

The public draft-survey tool produces an indicative cargo tonnage calculated from values you supply, using the formula (D₂ − D₁) × (ρ / 1.025) − Σ deductibles, rounded to three decimal places (1 kg). Results are informational only and do not constitute a certified survey, a bill of lading figure, or an admissible cargo-weight statement until issued and signed by an attending surveyor of Gulf Coast Surveyors.

3. Insurance alignment

Certified surveys are issued under our professional indemnity and errors & omissions insurance. Coverage of any specific shipment, hull, cargo, or P&I policy depends on the terms of the underlying policy and the engagement letter between Gulf Coast Surveyors and the assured. Nothing on this site constitutes insurance advice or a binding statement of coverage.

4. Acceptable use

  • Do not submit false vessel identification, fabricated displacements, or fraudulent insurance references.
  • Do not attempt to disrupt, reverse engineer, scrape, or overload the Services.
  • Do not submit personal information, confidential commercial terms, or material non-public information through the public tool.

5. Intellectual property

The Gulf Coast Surveyors name, marks, site design, survey worksheet layouts, and shipment coverage index are the property of Gulf Coast Surveyors. You may not reproduce or redistribute them without written consent, except for non-commercial reference use of individual calculation results.

6. Disclaimer of warranties

The Services are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. Tidal, weather, density, and gauging conditions can materially affect actual cargo tonnage.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Gulf Coast Surveyors and its officers, employees, and correspondents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of cargo, profits, goodwill, or insurance recovery, arising from use of the public Services. Our total aggregate liability for matters arising from the public Services is limited to USD $100.

8. Governing law & venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas and the general maritime law of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Exclusive venue for any dispute lies in the state or federal courts located in Jefferson County, Texas.

9. Changes

We may amend these Terms at any time by posting a revised version on this page. Continued use of the Services constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
